About Our Cavapoos

Safari Doodles raises Cavapoos as family companions in North Texas. Our puppies are raised inside our homes with regular handling, play, socialization and opportunities to explore their environment before joining their new families.

  • We raise our Cavapoo puppies in the living room and they play outside in the yard.
  • Our Cavapoo puppies begin potty training before going home and are taught to use both a litter pan potty box and outdoor grass areas.
  • Our puppies are raised in a clean, well maintained home environment, and we place a strong emphasis on keeping their living areas fresh, sanitary, and comfortable.
  • Size: larger Cavapoo puppies in a litter should be a stocky 15-25 lbs and 14-17” tall. Smaller Cavapoo puppies should be 10-15 lbs and 12-14” tall. Cavaliers are stocky and the Cavapoo pups can stay short but be heavy. For a more detailed explanation of expected adult size, growth, and the differences between our Cavapoo sizes, read our complete Cavapoo Size Guide.
  • Coat Type: most Cavapoo coats we produce are straight to wavy and low to no shed, some are curly. Cavapoo coats can vary depending on the genes a puppy inherits from each parent. For a deeper explanation, read our Cavapoo Coat Genetics and Shedding Guide.
  • Our Cavapoo parents have sweet and very loyal personalities that are great with kids, cats & dogs. Cavalier King Charles spaniels are one of the world’s most kind-hearted, gentle, and sweet dogs. Blending a Cavalier with a good poodle can produce a fantastic lower-shed dog with many Cavalier traits. Learn more in our Genetic Diversity of blending a Poodle with a Cavalier Guide.
  • Our parent dogs are health tested with DNA and OFA. Learn more of the why and how in our How Safari Doodles Health Tests Our Cavaliers, Poodles and Cavapoos Guide.

Our Cavapoo Breeding Experience & Health Testing

Safari Doodles brings decades of dog breeding experience to our Cavapoo program. Our experience with purebred dogs dates to the mid 1980s, followed by years of experience with Doodles before Safari Doodles began producing Doodle puppies in 2009. Today, we combine that experience with OFA health testing, DNA screening, careful parent selection and individualized puppy matching.

We believe transparency is especially important when choosing a Cavapoo breeder. Families should review the actual health testing of parent dogs and verify available OFA results through the public OFA database rather than relying only on claims made by a breeder.

Why do we DNA & OFA certify our Cavapoo parent dogs? To ensure you get a very healthy puppy, we go out of our way to health test the parents prior to making puppies. All our parent dogs of Cavapoos are tested at veterinary specialists for: hips, heart, patella, eyes. We have certificates for each health test for proof. By checking the parent dogs for potential inherited diseases like eye problems or heart disease, we increase the odds of your puppy being incredibly healthy. DNA testing screens for numerous inherited conditions relevant to the parent breeds. By making sure at least one parent is Clear / Normal of these genetic diseases, this helps prevent puppies from being affected by tested recessive conditions when the parents are appropriately matched. Our goal is to produce the world’s best Cavapoo puppies, starting with solid health of the parents. To learn more about the science behind crossing Cavaliers and Poodles and what research tells us about health and genetic diversity, read our Cavapoo Health and Genetic Diversity Guide.
