Cavapoo Breeder in Texas

Families searching for a Cavapoo breeder in Texas often want more than a cute puppy. They want to know how the parents were selected, what health testing was completed, how the puppies were raised, and whether the breeder has enough experience to understand the dogs behind each litter. We are a Cavapoo breeder in Texas and we have puppies available.

Safari Doodles is a North Texas breeding program serving families throughout Texas and across the United States. We have produced Doodle puppies since 2009 and have worked with OFA tested dogs for more than 20 years.

Our Cavapoo program combines the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with the Poodle to produce affectionate companion dogs with a strong focus on health, temperament, size, coat traits, and genetic diversity.

Why Safari Doodles Produces Cavapoos

We like the Cavapoo because the two parent breeds can complement one another extremely well.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is known for being affectionate, gentle, people focused, and relatively low energy.

The Poodle can contribute intelligence, trainability, athletic ability, and coat traits that may reduce shedding.

When thoughtfully combined, these traits can produce a small companion dog that is social, affectionate, playful, and adaptable to many different family lifestyles.

Health Testing Matters When Choosing a Cavapoo Breeder

A Cavapoo breeder should be able to provide more than a statement that the parents are healthy.

Safari Doodles uses OFA testing, DNA testing, pedigree information, family health history, temperament, structure, genetic diversity, and previous offspring when making breeding decisions.

Depending on the breed and individual parent dog, health testing may include:

  • Cardiac evaluations
  • Ophthalmologist eye examinations
  • Hip evaluations
  • Elbow evaluations
  • Patella evaluations
  • Thyroid testing
  • Breed relevant DNA testing

We believe families should be able to learn about the actual dogs behind their puppy and review meaningful health information.

Genetic Diversity in Cavapoos

One reason we value thoughtful crossbreeding is the opportunity to increase genetic diversity.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Poodles come from separate breed populations. Crossing unrelated breeds can increase genetic diversity in the first generation compared with breeding within a closed population.

That does not mean every crossbred dog will automatically be healthy. Parent selection and health testing still matter.

We explain this topic in more detail in our article about Cavapoo health and genetic diversity.

Cavapoo Sizes at Safari Doodles

Safari Doodles uses Miniature and Moyen Poodles in our Cavapoo program rather than Toy Poodles.

Our Cavapoos generally fall into two size groups.

Mini Cavapoos: approximately 12 to 18 pounds and 12 to 14 inches tall.

Moyen Cavapoos: approximately 18 to 25 pounds and 15 to 17 inches tall.

Because Cavapoos are crossbred dogs, adult size can vary within a litter. The size of both parents, pedigree information, and previous offspring can help us estimate adult size, but no breeder can predict exact adult size for every puppy.

For more information, visit our Cavapoo Size Guide.

What Is the Typical Cavapoo Temperament?

Cavapoos are often selected as family companion dogs because of the personality traits commonly found in Cavaliers and Poodles.

Cavaliers tend to be gentle, affectionate, calm, and strongly attached to people.

Poodles tend to be more mentally active, trainable, playful, and responsive to their environment.

Our goal is not to make every Cavapoo behave exactly the same. Individual puppies have their own personalities. Instead, we select parent dogs with temperaments we believe can complement one another and then evaluate puppies as they develop.

Temperament information helps us match puppies with families whose lifestyle is likely to suit that individual dog.

How Safari Doodles Puppies Are Raised

Our puppies are born and raised inside private family homes.

Our mothers give birth and raise their puppies inside the house, where puppies are exposed to normal household sounds, people, handling, grooming, toys, and everyday activity.

As puppies mature, they gradually experience additional environments and activities.

These may include:

  • Grooming
  • Litter box training
  • Different surfaces
  • Toys and activity areas
  • Individual handling
  • Social interaction
  • Exploration
  • Veterinary care
  • Temperament evaluation

Before leaving Safari Doodles, puppies are prepared for the transition from our homes into their new families.

Our puppies and parent dogs are raised in private family homes in McKinney, Aubrey, and Flower Mound as part of one coordinated Safari Doodles breeding program.

Do Cavapoos Shed?

Many families choose Cavapoos because they are hoping for less shedding than they might experience with a Cavalier.

Poodle coat genetics can reduce shedding, but Cavapoos are not all genetically identical and no breeder should promise that every puppy will be completely non shedding.

Different puppies can inherit different combinations of coat genes.

You can read more about this in Do Cavapoos and Goldendoodles Shed? Understanding Doodle Coat Genetics.

What Should You Ask a Cavapoo Breeder?

When comparing Cavapoo breeders in Texas, ask for information that can actually be verified.

Important questions include:

  • What health testing has been completed on each parent?
  • Can I see the parent dogs and their health records?
  • What DNA testing has been completed?
  • How are breeding pairs selected?
  • Where are puppies born and raised?
  • How are puppies socialized?
  • Are puppies temperament evaluated?
  • What veterinary care is completed before puppies leave?
  • What does the breeder know about previous generations and offspring?
  • What support is available after the puppy goes home?

Experience also matters. A breeder who has followed multiple generations can often provide information that cannot be learned from one litter alone.

Safari Doodles has produced Doodle puppies since 2009 and has more than 20 years of OFA tested dogs behind our breeding program.
