Why Families Choose Safari Doodles for Cavapoos

Safari Doodles places a strong emphasis on health testing and thoughtful breeding decisions.

Our breeding program includes:

  • OFA health testing on parent dogs
  • Breed appropriate DNA testing
  • Genetic diversity considered when planning litters
  • Temperament evaluation
  • Careful selection of parent dogs
  • Puppies raised inside family homes
  • Early grooming and handling
  • Exposure to household activity and new environments
  • Puppy matching based on temperament and family lifestyle
  • Continued support for Safari Doodles families

We also make health information available so families can learn about the dogs behind their puppy rather than simply being told that the parents are “health tested.”

What Is a Cavapoo?

A Cavapoo is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle.

We especially like this combination because Cavaliers are known for their affectionate, gentle, people focused personalities, while Poodles can contribute intelligence, trainability, athletic ability, and lower shedding coat traits.

The result can be a small companion dog that is affectionate, social, playful, and well suited for families.

Cavapoo Sizes

Safari Doodles produces Cavapoos using Miniature and Moyen Poodles rather than Toy Poodles.

Our Cavapoos generally fall into two size ranges:

Mini Cavapoos: approximately 12 to 18 pounds and 12 to 15 inches tall.

Moyen Cavapoos: approximately 18 to 25 pounds and 15 to 17 inches tall.

Adult size can vary because Cavapoos are crossbred dogs and puppies can inherit different combinations of traits from their parents.

For more details and photos showing the difference between the two sizes, visit our Cavapoo Size Guide.

Cavapoo Temperament

Cavaliers are typically affectionate, calm, tolerant, and strongly attached to people. Poodles are generally more active, intelligent, and responsive to training.

In our experience, combining these breeds can produce dogs that retain much of the gentle Cavalier personality while gaining some additional playfulness, intelligence, and trainability from the Poodle.

Cavapoos can be especially appealing to families who want a smaller companion dog that enjoys being involved with people without the energy level of many sporting breeds.

Cavapoo Health Testing

Health testing should be one of the most important considerations when choosing a Cavapoo breeder.

Safari Doodles uses OFA testing and DNA testing as part of our breeding program. Depending on the breed and individual dog, testing may include hips, elbows, cardiac evaluations, ophthalmologist eye examinations, patellas, thyroid testing, and breed relevant DNA screening.

We also consider pedigree, relatedness, genetic diversity, temperament, structure, previous offspring, and family health history when making breeding decisions.

Families can review information about our parent dogs and their health testing before choosing a puppy.

How Our Cavapoo Puppies Are Raised

Our mothers give birth and raise their puppies inside the home.

As puppies grow, they experience normal household life and gradually explore different environments. Depending on age, puppies receive opportunities for handling, grooming, play, litter box training, different surfaces, toys, activity areas, and plenty of interaction with people.

Before leaving Safari Doodles, puppies receive veterinary care appropriate for their age, microchipping, temperament evaluation, grooming, and preparation for their transition into their new homes.

Our puppies and parent dogs are raised in private family homes in McKinney, Aubrey, and Flower Mound as part of one coordinated Safari Doodles breeding program.

Choosing a Cavapoo Breeder in Dallas, Texas

When comparing Cavapoo breeders, we recommend looking beyond puppy photos and asking for verifiable information.

Look for a breeder who can show you:

  • OFA health testing
  • DNA testing
  • Information about the parent dogs
  • Pedigree and family health history
  • How puppies are actually raised
  • How puppies are socialized
  • How temperament is evaluated
  • What veterinary care puppies receive
  • What support is available after the puppy goes home

A breeder should be able to explain why a particular breeding was planned and what they know about the dogs behind the puppies.

Safari Doodles has dogs with documented OFA health testing behind our breeding program going back more than 20 years, and we have been producing Doodle puppies since 2009.

Do Cavapoos Shed?

Cavapoos are often chosen by families hoping for a lower shedding dog, but no Cavapoo coat can be guaranteed to be completely non shedding.

Coat and shedding are influenced by the individual genes a puppy inherits. Some Cavapoos release very little noticeable hair while others may shed more.
