Why Safari Doodles Is an Authority on Mini Goldendoodles
Safari Doodles brings decades of breeding experience to the Mini Goldendoodle program.
Safari Doodles began breeding purebred dogs in the mid 1980s, gained hands on experience with Doodles during the 2000s, and began producing Doodle puppies in 2009. That long history gives Safari Doodles something that cannot be created overnight: years of experience evaluating dogs, following family lines, studying health and temperament, and seeing how breeding decisions carry forward into future generations. You can also read more about more than 20 years of Safari Doodles OFA health testing records and how those records document the history of our breeding program.
Danise of Safari Doodles has worked with Golden Retrievers and Poodles for many years and has produced Mini and Medium Goldendoodles from carefully selected parent dogs. The program is built around more than appearance. Breeding decisions consider health testing, structure, temperament, pedigree, genetic diversity, adult size, coat traits, and the qualities seen in previous generations.
One of the strengths of the Safari Doodles program is the ability to evaluate dogs across generations. Many current parent dogs come from established family lines that Safari Doodles has known for years. This allows Danise to look beyond a single DNA test or veterinary exam and consider the health, temperament, structure, and traits seen throughout the family. A great example is Ruben. He is the 4th generation of Safari Doodles poodle stud dogs. Safari Doodles started with Scrappy who was born in 2007. This example shows Danise’s long term familiarity with her dog’s family line.
Parent dogs receive OFA health testing and breed appropriate DNA screening. Depending on the breed and individual dog, testing may include hips, elbows, cardiac evaluation, ophthalmologist eye examinations, patellas, and inherited disease screening.
Safari Doodles also places strong emphasis on temperament. Mini Goldendoodles are intended to be family companions, so parent dogs are selected for stable, social, trainable temperaments. Puppies are observed as they develop so families can be guided toward a puppy whose personality and energy level are appropriate for their home.
Another important part of the Safari Doodles program is size selection. Mini Goldendoodles can vary considerably depending on the size and background of the parent dogs. Safari Doodles uses known Golden Retriever and Miniature or Moyen Poodle lines to help families better understand the expected adult size of each litter.
Danise has also followed many Safari Doodles puppies into adulthood. Feedback from families, information about adult size, coat, health, temperament, and trainability all contribute to future breeding decisions.
Safari Doodles is not simply producing Mini Goldendoodles from unrelated parent dogs and starting over with each generation. The program is built on years of records, health testing, family knowledge, and experience with the dogs behind each pedigree. For instance, check out this informative article in the Safari Doodles Blog. We examined large scale health data to better understand differences between parent breeds and their crosses. Read our review of Goldendoodle and Golden Retriever Cancer Risk based on Nationwide’s study of more than 1.6 million dogs. Danise works hard at staying up-to-date on science and data.
That history is one of the reasons Safari Doodles has become a trusted source for families looking for Mini Goldendoodle puppies in Texas and throughout the United States.

How does Safari Doodles raise puppies?
All of our mother dogs give birth and raise their puppies inside a family home. We believe puppies develop best when they are raised in the main living areas of the house, surrounded by everyday activity, people, and consistent individual attention.
Puppies are regularly raised in three Safari Doodles family homes. Occasionally, a mother dog may remain with her guardian family to give birth and care for her puppies during the earliest weeks.
Throughout development, puppies receive deworming according to veterinary guidance. Our veterinarian examines each litter at approximately 6 to 7 weeks of age. Puppies are also microchipped, groomed, temperament tested, introduced to litter box potty training, and given plenty of opportunities to play, explore, learn, and be handled.
They spend time in our playroom and activity areas, experience new sights and surfaces, interact closely with people, and receive plenty of affection and individual attention.
We know that how a puppy is raised can have a lasting impact. Our goal is to provide each litter with a rich, thoughtful start so families receive a puppy that has been carefully raised, well socialized, and prepared for life in a home. Read more on How Safari Doodles Raises Puppies.
How do I know if Safari Doodles is a reputable breeder?
Safari Doodles carefully health tests our parent dogs before breeding. Our program also includes generations of documented health testing, allowing us to make breeding decisions based on more than the results of a single dog.
Parent dogs receive health testing appropriate for their breed and breeding role, with results published through OFA. Testing commonly includes OFA hips, elbows, patella, cardiac and eye examinations, along with breed relevant DNA testing.
Safari Doodles also considers pedigree, family health history, genetic diversity, temperament, structure, and DNA when choosing breeding pairs. Our goal is to thoughtfully pair each parent to produce healthy, well balanced puppies. Please read more about Safari Doodles’ Heath and Testing.
Safari Doodles began producing Doodle puppies in 2009, but our breeding experience goes back much further. Our Doodle lines trace back to parent dogs born in 2004, owned and OFA health tested by Safari Doodles. Today, we continue working with generations of those established, health tested family lines. This gives Safari Doodles long term firsthand knowledge of our Poodle, Golden Retriever and Goldendoodle lines, including their health, temperament and the traits they have produced over time.
Our lines are made up of the many highly sought after families of dogs. We have imported show dogs from Europe. We purchased dogs from well known service dog lines. Our Golden Retrievers and Poodles have outstanding pedigrees. To see more about our Golden Retriever line, see our Golden Retrievers page.
Safari Doodles has a widespread reputation for producing great dogs and over 200 reviews on FaceBook reflect this. Our referrals are endless. Safari Doodles has a long history of producing dogs that have gone on to service dog training and other assistance roles. Temperament has always been an important part of our breeding program. We evaluate puppies as they develop and use our knowledge of our family lines to help match each puppy with an appropriate home. Some Safari Doodles puppies have been selected for service and assistance work, while most are carefully matched as family companions. We have many vets who refer their clients to consider us for their next Goldendoodle. Dog trainers, groomers, whole neighborhoods refer to us. It is important to us to do whatever it takes to keep the integrity of the Safari Doodles name alive.
How much is a Safari Doodles puppy?
